Bathroom On A Truck

This post is an update on our bathroom reno.  Technically, there really isn’t anything to *update* other than we are in possession of our building permit and have one wall framed.

It isn’t for the lack of time or effort that we haven’t moved that quickly.  We were waiting for the permit and my plumber to come back from vacation.  Now that he has returned from some sunny, hot place that I am jealous of, he can get to work busting open the basement floor to install new connections for the commode and sink.  Afterwards, with the subsequent inspection and … Read more...

Patience is a Virtue

I wish you could just head to the store and buy as much patience as was needed for any given project or situation.  It would be a heck of a lot easier than trying to muster up your own patience…especially when one doesn’t have very much to begin with.

I have boatloads of patience in my chosen career, but apparently it doesn’t transfer over to my extra-curricular activities.  Take this new hobby of mine ~ weaving.  Like with anything new, you are all gaga over it and want to see things made before your eyes instantly.

But weaving (like knitting) … Read more...

WIP’s & FO’s

Have you missed me?  I know I have missed sitting down here writing out my thoughts but life just seems to be getting in the way of my writing these days.  I will try to become a little more regular…emphasis being on the word ‘try’.

Now I am sure you are asking.. “What the hell are WIP’s and FO’s?”.  Well,  WIP’s are “Work-In-Progress” and FO’s are “Finished Objects”.  Acronyms of the fiber/craft world and I am sure many other pursuits either hobby related or career related.

I have a lot of both going on right now.  Actually, I think there … Read more...

10 Random Tips To Make Your Life Easier

Don’t you wish that there was a book or manual you could buy that would tell you exactly what you needed to do for just about anything?  Me too…. but if there was, it would be the size of Lake Erie and not all practical as a coffee table book.

Over the years I have come upon or discovered tips that make my life easier.  Most come from happy accidents or the “what happens if I do this…?” scenario or passed down from older relatives who have gone down the wrong path to discover new ideas.   There may not be … Read more...

Yup…I Am Still Here

I haven’t fallen off the planet…close, but not yet.

Falling Off PlanetI am just very, very busy trying to get all the stuff done that is currently piled on my plate…2 sewing projects and one knitting project that are all commission jobs while continuing the de-cluttering of the house (Yay for garbage day today!) and toss in demolishing a basement office area to become a future bathroom ~ which has created clouds of drywall dust that wafted throughout the house leaving a fine, white residue on everything…now I have to clean too.

Oh, and try and fit in that job/work schedule into … Read more...

How To Build A Bathroom

or more aptly…

How To Drive Yourself Crazy Building A Bathroom.

We have decided to build a bathroom in our basement.  We only have one bathroom in our current home.  Incredulous I know, but our house was built in the early 70’s and there didn’t seem to be a need to build a bathroom for every bedroom like the new construction homes of today.  We raised our 2 kids using only one bathroom, we figured it was no big deal.  Scheduling was all that was needed on busy weekday mornings.

But soon we will be downsizing and families of today … Read more...

February Is Clutter Busting Time

It is February, and the groundhogs have spoken.
6 more weeks of winter.

I have news for you.  We do not need rodent prognosticators to tell us that we are in for more snow, sleet and freezing temps.  Mother Nature, not groundhogs, rules the seasons, and when she is ready to grace us with her warm sunny smile, she will, but not a moment sooner.

So what to do when the snowpiles are up to your arse?

De-Clutter the house of course!

This week is the start of de-clutter month at the Homestead.  I usually start this in January, but … Read more...

Running on Empty

Almost running on empty….It has been a very busy week here at the Southern Homestead, hmmm… maybe I will call it the Southern Plantation…seeing as the house here is about double the size of the Northern Homestead….anyway, it has been very busy with work, house, knitting, sewing, weaving and cooking.

So busy that I haven’t had time to get into regular posts, but I figured I would toss out a quickie for Friday while my ginormous batch of meatballs is cooking in the oven after having pulled out a small dish of yellow beets that were finished roasting.IMG_20140131_130510

A Little Bit Of Everything

I know I said I would be *back* here Monday, but between mountains of laundry and work/house catchup, it took me longer to get some time available for writing.

This morning’s quickie post has me whining just how !@#%&!! cold it is outside here in the land of the Great White North as all it does is have me pining for the place I left behind on the weekend.  I guess it really makes you appreciate, no covet, the days spent frolicking in the sun and the sand.  I am still putting together a post about the trip, so your … Read more...

Going Back In Time

A couple months ago I was up at my Aunt and Uncle’s for a visit and spotted an old-fashioned drying rack in their quaint kitchen.  I love old stuff like that and knew I just HAD to have one….so I thought to myself…”Self…this would be the perfect item for the Homestead when days are not suitable to hang stuff outside (or when it snows either)”.

I then unleashed my googling expert hubby to find one for me.  He did, on eBay.  Not having ever purchased anything on eBay before, we were given a crash course in how it operates.  Basically, … Read more...
