Wooly Checkered Flags

For those that do not know me very well (or haven’t read the About Me section, and shame on you if you haven’t), I am a NASCAR Nut.  I have been one since….oh…about the late 80’s or so.  Even though I am Canadian and *should* love hockey, curling, ice skating and careening down a tree-filled slope 90 miles an hour on a pair of skinny wooden planks, NASCAR is my sport of choice.  There is something about the 43 Supercharged 800+ horsepower engines roaring to life  every week that give me goosebumps.

In honour of my NASCAR fetish, I created … Read more...

And the winner is….

Congrats to Chris from Saskatchewan!!!  She is the lucky winner of the random draw of correct answers for the La Gitana Creations Microsuede Handbag.

She correctly identified the mystery critter below, which is a North American Freshwater Leach.  Fish, Loons and Diving Ducks think they are pretty darn tasty…and Fishermen swear by them as bait (as one of our contest entries mentioned).

Hubby fished the critter out of the lake a few weeks ago, so of course, I took it as a great photo op moment.

Thanks to all who entered!  Chris, I will get your new handbag packaged up … Read more...

Knuts for Knitting

Ever get the bug for something and you can’t stop?

That is me lately… I have not been able to put down the knitting needles since mid-August.  The cooler weather of Fall that arrived has prodded me further into action.

I just finished a beautiful, hooded cowl for my daughter (below), that was made using an Alpaca blended yarn.  First time ever working with Alpaca….man, talk about a hairy yarn.  I felt like I had 5 cats sleeping on my lap whenever I was working on it.  Definitely a ‘messy’ yarn, but extremely warm and works up beautifully.  My best … Read more...

New Season = New Purse

Show me a woman that doesn’t change her purse at the start of every season and I will show you a man who says he doesn’t enjoy golf…HA!

I have a couple of favourite purses that I rotate for summer & winter, but I also like to change things up now and again with something new and funky, but NOT with one of the over-priced, mass-produced clones that have flooded the market.  They shall remain nameless, but you can guess what/who the top two are.

Normally my purses are made from fabric but this time I went with a knitted … Read more...

September is National Sweater Month

No really, I think we should have Parliament designate September as National Sweater Month here in Canada.  Seeing as we will be seeing the white stuff fall soon, what other month could you possibly designate that would do the sweater justice?  I think I will be starting a petition, right after I save the world from the dang aphids…..

Can you tell I love sweaters?  Sweaters are perfect for those days where a heavier coat isn’t quite necessary, but you need that little bit of warmth a sweater provides (plus they look really COOL).

I have been cruising the … Read more...

How To Make iPhone Mitts

Warm, fuzzy, practical mitts for iPhone users, or any other touch screen electronic device.  No longer will you have to pull off your gloves to answer an email or a phone call.  Just slide your fingers out the end and you have instant access to your touch screen.  All the while, keeping the rest of your hands warm and cozy.  When you need to keep your fingers warm, fold the upper portion in to envelope your fingers.

The History of Aprons…

I don’t think our kids know what an apron is…
Old Apron Pattern Pic1
The principal use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in

Mother’s Day Gift ~ Lavender Sachet Pillow

What Mom wouldn’t want one of these gorgeous little pillows in her lingerie drawer? Filled with dried lavender flowers, it is the perfect scent that is neither too strong nor too subtle.

Chic Little Number

I was looking to create a new bag for my up-coming trip to México as we usually take one day to head into Playa Del Carmen for shopping (and of course, have a frosty mug of beer at Señor Frog’s while watching the ferries come in from Cozumel!), but I detest lugging around a large purse (less hands for carrying bags of goodies!)….so a different handbag was in order.

I had 2 criteria… one being large enough to hold my wallet, reading glasses and lip balm, but it also had to have a large strap so it went cross-body so … Read more...
