This Week’s Menu

Last week’s menu didn’t work out as planned…we moved Tuesday’s to Friday, Friday’s to Wednesday, canceled Thursday’s outright…and I ended up changing my mind on yesterday’s too!

This coming week is going to be downright hectic as well… with all the hoopla of Easter, throw in the elbowing of crazed grandma’s to get at the best chocolate bunnies, preparing the annual Easter Paska for Easter Sunday Dinner as well as packing to spend the long weekend up at the cottage….  oh…and I think I have an actual job to do in the midst of all of the above…..I have sooooo … Read more...

This Week’s Menu

Have you recovered?

From all the fun and frivolity of St. Patrick’s Day and all things green? I have, although I kept my beer green-free as I can’t bring myself to drink something that looks like a Leprechaun peed in it.

The highlight of the weekend was enjoying a delicious steak dinner while watching the NASCAR race from Bristol Motor Speedway yesterday, one of the best tracks to watch a race from (which we had the pleasure of attending a few years ago) and while watching the race, I was contemplating what to do with this week’s menu….

I decided … Read more...

Easiest Sweet ‘n Sour Meatballs

Sometimes you just need a no-brainer recipe for dinner, and this fits the bill in spades.  These are so easy, even your budding ‘Chopped’ 5 year old could make them.  No fancy ingredients by the dozen required either.  Only 3 simple, everyday ingredients and a slow cooker are needed to transform ho-hum meatballs into a wonderfully sweet and tart sauced dish worthy of chefs extra-ordinaire Scott Conant or Aarón Sanchez…ok, maybe not actually them, but your family will love them nonetheless!

This Week’s Menu

What a fabulously warm weekend we had here in Southern Ontario.  Makes me itch to get in the garden, but the snow piles are still very much evident so I must curb my enthusiasm for now.  Instead we hauled out buckets of hot, soapy water and Mr. Clean, then proceeded to clean the cars inside and out.  They are much better looking now that they don’t resemble salt licks.

This weeks menu was a snap to pull together, and I am really looking forward to Tuesday’s meal as it is one of my favourites.  An elegant meal with minimal fuss … Read more...

This Week’s Menu…

I know it is Tuesday.  But time got away from me along with a Sunday road trip which made for this not coming together as planned for Monday.  So now that I have it afixed in electronic/digital stone, it will become a regular weekly post commencing on Monday’s.

I hope this gives you inspiration into the daily
‘what are we having for dinner?’ question!

Buen Provecho!

The Best Garlic Smoosher

I love Garlic….but I also hate smooshing Garlic.

It is messy, sticky stuff and makes your hands smell like garlic for days.  Which is fine if you want to ward off Vampires.  I also do not care to spend $20 on an over-priced, hard to clean garlic press gadget with some famous company’s logo on it.

Now I am not one for product endorsements, especially when I get nothing for it, but I found the perfect, cheap (frugal!) garlic press and I just have to share this wonderful invention…

Triple Mix Meatballs

From Albania to Vietnam and a hundred countries in between…Meatballs come in a wide variety of styles and flavours.  Known as Albóndigas from Spain and Latin America to the Danish Frikadeller to the Indonesian Baksos, they are all variations of the humble meatball.

I have to admit, I am a cooking show junky, and after watching numerous episodes of Guy Fieri’s Triple D, settled on a method of cooking meatballs that renders them so juicy and tender, you will never go back to regular, pan-fried, dried out meatballs.

There are actually two secrets to juicy, tender meatballs…the first being … Read more...

Dream Kitchen

I think it is safe to assume pretty much every woman (and culinary inspired men too) have an idea of what their dream kitchen would look like and what appliances they would like to see gracing their spacesSS Fridge.

Whether you are the Modern type wanting the sleek, stylish and somewhat sterile-looking Stainless Steel appliances that have been all the rage for the past 10 years…

Of which a major advantage of them being that their sharp, clean lines suit a wide ranging colour palette.

The following creations will be displayed in the order of when I received them.

Up first is a man that certainly knows his way around a kitchen.  Which is a good thing for my daughter, as this fellow is her husband, and without him, she would be eating cheese and crackers the rest of her life.  He certainly makes sure she is well taken care of…meanwhile, he was so excited to join in this time, … Read more...

Pantry Organization

Have you ever opened the door to your pantry and wondered just WHO put all that crap in there?  A bag of rice cereal with barely a quarter cup in it, a smidgeon of panko bread crumbs sandwiched between an almost empty box of noodles and the olive oil…. and just why did I buy a brand new box of mashed potato flakes back in 1998? I have no clue why it’s there…..this is called general mayhem in the pantry.

Here is what to do (put the beer down, that is not that answer)…..

Step 1:  Head to your nearest … Read more...
