ooooooh….Shiny!

Smitten….ever been smitten with something? Not someONE, but someTHING?

Gardening is it for me….
(yeah, yeah, I hear you, here I go again)

But wait!

NOW is the most important time to plan out your garden!

Regardless of what the weather is doing outside, you can always start a mini greenhouse indoors.  So yesterday I started my herbs in pots, Parsley, Cilantro, Thyme & Basil, mainly for being able to use them earlier and planting a second batch later on in April.

Today (well, actually it was yesterday, as I always do my posts ahead) I was searching on-line … Read more...

Toss that one!

Ever try a new recipe and it bombs?

do not eat

That is what happened this past weekend.  I tried out a new recipe (from the pages of Canadian Living no less, and usually they are “Tested Till Perfect” – their motto), but not this time…which is almost unheard of.

I did somewhat enjoy it, but hubby didn’t say a word while eating it…

Which meant it was a bomb.

So this one is tossed.

Spicy Sausauge Corn Bread Cobbler

The premise was promising, it consisted of sauted potatoes, onions, Italian sausage (I also added carrots and spinach), simmered in a beef broth, … Read more...

This means….

you missed a bunch of important stuff!!!

But we are now back on track and if anyone thought I was AWOL and missed seeing the latest posts since my holiday break…here you go (just click on each link to access the post)

Smoky The Cowhorse

When I was in Grade 3 or 4, our teacher gave the class a list of books from the library and we had to choose one of them to read.   Being an undeniable horse nut from the time I could recognize one, I chose to read a novel by Will James called Smoky The Cowhorse (that’s him on the left in the illustration from the book below).

smoky the cowhorse

This being my very first ‘novel’, it not only hooked me on reading, but further deepened my love of all things equine.

The story is about a gorgeous, smoky-gray coloured mustang born in … Read more...

1st GangUp Challenge of 2013

I like to challenge myself in the kitchen because I can never seem to stick to a recipe (unless I am baking, baking is a science you don’t mess with) when I am trying out something new for dinner.  I look at a new recipe and think….hmmm..what if I added this instead of that? or maybe add more or less of a certain ingredient?…or I know hubby wouldn’t eat it with that in it…. hence why I never give reviews on any recipes I try off the internet – it wouldn’t be fair to judge a recipe after I fooled … Read more...

Soup’s On!

Mmmmmmmm…..who doesn’t love the aroma of a pot full of home-made soup?   I am a sucker for new soup recipes too.  As soon as I come across one that really gets my taste buds fired up – I haul out the soup pot.  One of the benefits of soup is that it can also be one of your best tools for Weight Loss.  Soup needn’t be full of fat to be delicious!

Soup is not only a take-the-chill-off meal in the winter months, but it also delivers your daily intake of required meat, veggies and water, all in one … Read more...

Water, Water Everywhere!

Water is one of the necessities of Life.  Without Water, there would be none.  Everyone knows they should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, but they often don’t.  Water helps your body aid in digestion, flushes out the nasties, keeps your skin glowing and transports oxygen and nutrients throughout your body.  Lack of water leads to dehydration which comes with some nasty symptons….headache, fatigue, muscle cramps and constipation.  Just to get you all keen on water again, grab a glass and read on…..

Fish On!

I am heading to BC to wrestle a 25lb. Sockeye into a boat for dinner….OK, I fibbed, as much as I would love to, I will head to my nearest fish monger and ask for a couple of nice, fresh Salmon filets instead.  Salmon is an excellent fish to get your daily intake of ‘good fat’ when disguised as a burger.

Serve open-face style on whole grain bread with a side salad to get the maximum benefits in this heart-healthy meal to help in your quest to lose weight.  If you are not a salmon fan, try subbing it with … Read more...

E is for…. Exercise!

Yes, good, old-fashioned exercise never hurt anyone.  Regardless of what your screaming muscles may say to you after you inflict too much movement on them in the beginning.

Starting an exercise routine is undoubtedly the hardest part.  You can procrastinate yourself right out of not doing it by thoughts alone.  But…we all need to get our 30 minutes a day in so you may as well knuckle under and git ‘er done (sorry, saw this on a roadside sign for a roofing company and couldn’t resist – BTW, this is a VERY odd sign for a Canadian company’s roadside advertising … Read more...
