It’s Friday!

Which means…

It’s PIZZA DAY!

Today’s Pizza will be BBQ Chicken Pizza.  One of the easiest and quickest pizzas to throw together at the end of a busy work week.  Sure, you could go out and pay almost 20 bucks for one at a local pizza joint….but I will show you how easy it is to make your own at home for a fraction of the cost.

To start with…you need pizza dough.  Click on Whole Wheat Pizza Dough to access my recipe and that will get you started.

Next, you need a chicken…not a live one, nor a whole … Read more...

Toss that one!

Ever try a new recipe and it bombs?

do not eat

That is what happened this past weekend.  I tried out a new recipe (from the pages of Canadian Living no less, and usually they are “Tested Till Perfect” – their motto), but not this time…which is almost unheard of.

I did somewhat enjoy it, but hubby didn’t say a word while eating it…

Which meant it was a bomb.

So this one is tossed.

Spicy Sausauge Corn Bread Cobbler

The premise was promising, it consisted of sauted potatoes, onions, Italian sausage (I also added carrots and spinach), simmered in a beef broth, … Read more...

GangUp Challenge ~ Update

Due to the technical difficulties my site experienced last week, I am extending the closing date of the GangUp Challenge from January 22nd to January 26th.

This should enable enough time for everyone to devise, plan and show off their kitchen creativity!

For a list of the ingredients and rules, click here.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone brings to the table!

1st GangUp Challenge of 2013

I like to challenge myself in the kitchen because I can never seem to stick to a recipe (unless I am baking, baking is a science you don’t mess with) when I am trying out something new for dinner.  I look at a new recipe and think….hmmm..what if I added this instead of that? or maybe add more or less of a certain ingredient?…or I know hubby wouldn’t eat it with that in it…. hence why I never give reviews on any recipes I try off the internet – it wouldn’t be fair to judge a recipe after I fooled … Read more...

Soup’s On!

Mmmmmmmm…..who doesn’t love the aroma of a pot full of home-made soup?   I am a sucker for new soup recipes too.  As soon as I come across one that really gets my taste buds fired up – I haul out the soup pot.  One of the benefits of soup is that it can also be one of your best tools for Weight Loss.  Soup needn’t be full of fat to be delicious!

Soup is not only a take-the-chill-off meal in the winter months, but it also delivers your daily intake of required meat, veggies and water, all in one … Read more...

Fish On!

I am heading to BC to wrestle a 25lb. Sockeye into a boat for dinner….OK, I fibbed, as much as I would love to, I will head to my nearest fish monger and ask for a couple of nice, fresh Salmon filets instead.  Salmon is an excellent fish to get your daily intake of ‘good fat’ when disguised as a burger.

Serve open-face style on whole grain bread with a side salad to get the maximum benefits in this heart-healthy meal to help in your quest to lose weight.  If you are not a salmon fan, try subbing it with … Read more...

New Year…New Beginning!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hope your holidays were fun and food-filled laughter-fests with family and friends.  I know they were to me. Too good in fact…. as all those cookies, treats, dips and meals for special occasions have left me feeling like a blue whale trying to wiggle into a dolphin’s skin.  Sleek and svelte are not words in my wardrobe vocabulary at the moment.  Thank goodness the Holidays have come to an end….my clothes are tight enough!

Time to change all that though….Yes, a New Year brings a New You….especially after you eat with abandon for a solid month.  … Read more...

Christmas Countdown ~ Day 6

Bake With A Buddy Day

The premise is simple….grab yourself a buddy, round up some ingredients and spend the day baking with a friend.  Split the loot, a glass or two of vino and share some laughs and giggles together.

Spending time with a special someone baking in the kitchen eases stress and gets the cookie-chore done in no time.  If your kitchen is large enough, invite several friends and have them bring their favourite recipes and ingredients.  The more the merrier!

The added bonus? You get to try out some recipes you may not have had the opportunity to … Read more...

Christmas Shortbread Cookie Baking Bonanza Day!

That is a mouthful of a title…but not as yummy as a mouthful of buttery, flaky, shortbread cookies!

Yesterday my daughter came over for our annual Christmas cookie baking palooza day.  This is our 3rd year of baking cookies together, prior to that, she was always baking them with her cousin.  But since her cousin moved to BC a few years ago for school, she has been painfully missed.  So I happily stand in for my niece and offer up my kitchen to the Gods of Flour Scattering.  Yup, plural, I do believe there is more than one, hence … Read more...
