Super Bowl ~ Super Fattening Luncheon

I ate HOW MUCH in Calories???

Last Friday was the annual Stuper Bowl Luncheon.. I mean Super Bowl Luncheon at the office.  Hosted every year by my football crazed boss (meant in the nicest way too), it doesn’t matter if his team is in the ‘Big Game’ or not as he just loves football and likes to share his enthusiasm with the rest of us.  Thank you again Ed, we truly appreciate what you do every year for us (no, I am not sucking up, even though it looks like it).

My Plate

It has been 2 weeks since my New Year, New Beginning post…have you forgotten or abandoned your quest to lose weight?  Better not have!

As I mentioned in that post, one of the best tools for weight loss is a food/exercise journal.  It helps to keep you accountable because at the end of every day, you see exactly what you have accomplished (or totally bombed on after hoovering up half a dozen leftover Christmas cookies, hence your impending doom of guilt) and can feel good in your efforts to lose your excess baggage.

My favourite tool (and has been for … Read more...

1st GangUp Challenge of 2013

I like to challenge myself in the kitchen because I can never seem to stick to a recipe (unless I am baking, baking is a science you don’t mess with) when I am trying out something new for dinner.  I look at a new recipe and think….hmmm..what if I added this instead of that? or maybe add more or less of a certain ingredient?…or I know hubby wouldn’t eat it with that in it…. hence why I never give reviews on any recipes I try off the internet – it wouldn’t be fair to judge a recipe after I fooled … Read more...

Soup’s On!

Mmmmmmmm…..who doesn’t love the aroma of a pot full of home-made soup?   I am a sucker for new soup recipes too.  As soon as I come across one that really gets my taste buds fired up – I haul out the soup pot.  One of the benefits of soup is that it can also be one of your best tools for Weight Loss.  Soup needn’t be full of fat to be delicious!

Soup is not only a take-the-chill-off meal in the winter months, but it also delivers your daily intake of required meat, veggies and water, all in one … Read more...

Water, Water Everywhere!

Water is one of the necessities of Life.  Without Water, there would be none.  Everyone knows they should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day, but they often don’t.  Water helps your body aid in digestion, flushes out the nasties, keeps your skin glowing and transports oxygen and nutrients throughout your body.  Lack of water leads to dehydration which comes with some nasty symptons….headache, fatigue, muscle cramps and constipation.  Just to get you all keen on water again, grab a glass and read on…..

Fish On!

I am heading to BC to wrestle a 25lb. Sockeye into a boat for dinner….OK, I fibbed, as much as I would love to, I will head to my nearest fish monger and ask for a couple of nice, fresh Salmon filets instead.  Salmon is an excellent fish to get your daily intake of ‘good fat’ when disguised as a burger.

Serve open-face style on whole grain bread with a side salad to get the maximum benefits in this heart-healthy meal to help in your quest to lose weight.  If you are not a salmon fan, try subbing it with … Read more...

E is for…. Exercise!

Yes, good, old-fashioned exercise never hurt anyone.  Regardless of what your screaming muscles may say to you after you inflict too much movement on them in the beginning.

Starting an exercise routine is undoubtedly the hardest part.  You can procrastinate yourself right out of not doing it by thoughts alone.  But…we all need to get our 30 minutes a day in so you may as well knuckle under and git ‘er done (sorry, saw this on a roadside sign for a roofing company and couldn’t resist – BTW, this is a VERY odd sign for a Canadian company’s roadside advertising … Read more...

There is an army on the horizon.  An army of fat cells that will do anything to thwart your plans of their anihilation.  This army is sneaky and conniving.  They pile up like flakes of snow in the night and next thing you know, you look like the Goodyear Tire man.  Not very flattering if you ask me…..

Time to banish these insidious little demons and I have just the tools to help you wage war and win!

New Year…New Beginning!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hope your holidays were fun and food-filled laughter-fests with family and friends.  I know they were to me. Too good in fact…. as all those cookies, treats, dips and meals for special occasions have left me feeling like a blue whale trying to wiggle into a dolphin’s skin.  Sleek and svelte are not words in my wardrobe vocabulary at the moment.  Thank goodness the Holidays have come to an end….my clothes are tight enough!

Time to change all that though….Yes, a New Year brings a New You….especially after you eat with abandon for a solid month.  … Read more...
