I went on Vacation! A Technology Vacation!

I hate technology.  Yes, a lot of good things have come from the technological era that has blossomed the past 20+ years.  But with that technology comes unexpected, without warning ISSUES that are of course, a major PITA that you have ZERO  control over.  And for a control freak, that is NOT good news.

Last Friday, I was minding my own business, creating a new blog post and my son (who is my web master) was busy creating and building an email interface for the site when all of sudden….poof….we were no longer able to access the site (on his servers).

Hmmmmmm…. Very, very odd he says.  He tried to remotely re-connect.

Nope.  Nothing.  Nada.  Dead Internet Air.   Crickets chirping even.

This is not good he says.  Something is very, very wrong.  I will have to wait until I get home from work to see what it is.   OK I said….keep me posted.  So I went and made some cookies instead.

That was the start of my vacation.

I did not hear back from him until the next morning (Saturday).  He had verified that all servers were ok and functioning normally, so then he went into work and took his modem to test it.  It worked fine.  Ok, modem is not the issue.  Next!  Must be a cable/line issue.

So he calls the company responsible and then spends the next several hours squabbling over whose responsibility it is.  FYI, he has internet through another provider, but the lines belong to a nationwide carrier and they tried to blame the ISP or HIM.

Finally, they see that it is indeed their problem but seeing as it is the weekend, nothing could be done until Monday at the EARLIEST.   After all, since the Federal Government de-regulated the telephone industry many moons ago, this company has forgotten all about Customer Service.

Great, no internet for the weekend for him and no blog site accessibility for me as well as all you great folks who read this.

Monday comes and goes….nothing.

Tuesday comes and goes…. Nothing.

Wednesday dawns bright, Jr. calls  the company to see how things are going.  Oh sir, we did a line test remotely, your line is all good, no further issues, we closed your service ticket………. Um……. NO…… I still have no internet.  Oh…….are you sure?   Yes, I am sure, I have no internet…. OH… ok, we’ll have to open another service ticket then because we closed the other one, and we don’t know how long it will take.

Great….. Please pass me my Prozac…and a bottle of Bailey’s.

Thursday….good news! A fella will be coming out this evening between 5 and 9 pm to PHYSICALLY LOOK INTO THE LINE ISSUE.

Hallelujah…..angels sing, cats purposely seek out dogs to cuddle.  All is right with the world…almost.

So…. As of 8:00 p.m. Thursday night, 6 days and hours counting.  I am back from vacation.

I guess I needed the rest?  Back in business tomorrow with a brand new post.  Do you like Pizza? You won’t want to miss it.
