Christmas Countdown ~ Day 4

Craft a Christmas

Do you Knit, Crochet or Sew?  Are you handy with a glue gun? Creativity knows no bounds this time of year.  Even if you are not exactly the creative type, there are loads of websites that can teach you how to transform the most mundane of household items into something practical and useful.  A good place to get ideas from is www.pinterest.com  Enter ‘Holiday Crafts’ in the search bar – you will soon be swarmed with oodles of ideas, saving your pocket book and giving you a sense of pride in a hand-made item your family will treasure.

For the yarn-craft folks:  Knit/Crochet a pair of warm, wooly mitts or slippers. How about a hat/scarf/cowl in contrasting or matching colours to the recipients coat? You will be amazed how well received a hand-knitted scarf will be.  Visit www.ravelry.com or www.knitty.com for free patterns on just about anything.

Bake a Present: Is there a sweet-toothed person on your list?  Make their favourite cookies/sweets and package them up in dollar store gift boxes or make your own.

Creative Gift Wrappings:  Paper Towel and Toilet Paper tubes make great holders for small items/trinkets.  Stuff them and then wrap them Christmas Cracker style.

Personalize a Calendar:  A cousin of mine is creating a calendar for her parents for next year.  She is taking photos of family members to showcase every month of the year.  There are several websites where you can make your own or you can take digital photos to any photo-developing store and let them help you create a unique gift for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list.  Perfect idea!

So plop that creative hat on your head and get ‘er done!

Beer / Deer anyone?

  1. the beer deer are great. I love to make my Christmas gifts and that is what many family and friends get from me. Through the year (when I decide to shop) I may come across a neat idea for someone and I buy it. When the gift REALLY fits the person-I can’t resist a bought gift. The calendars are very well received-I made calendars for MIL, grammas, and 1 special cousin every year for many years. I used pics from the previous year to highlight the month-birthdays, Christmas, hunting season, etc,. I collected all family members birthdays and anniversaries and typed them onto the calendar for the particular side of the family.
